Simple Shoes call themselves a "nice little shoe company getting in touch with its inner hippie", and trust me, this mob are talking the talk and (stylishly) walking the walk. Their mens, womens and kids "shoes for a happy planet" are 100% sustainable - because, states their website, "HOW we make our shoes is just as important as WHY we make them." You'd never guess, but these surfie-and-skatie style kicks are made from recycled and sustainable materials such as hemp, jute, car tyres, bamboo, carpet padding, cork, plastics, Certified Organic cotton and coconut... to name a few. "Our shoes use a thimble of water-based adhesives, instead of the two shot glasses of petroleum-derived glues that is typical," says a spokeswoman from this "stereotypical, anti-stereotype brand".
Simple Shoes was born in 1991, but it wasn't until 2005 that their first 'Green Toe' collection emerged. Today, their shoes and bags (including the legendary ecoSNEAKS and PlanetWalkers) are being worn by green fashionistas the world over. Some of the shoes are even vegan-friendly, and all boast minimalist, recycled packaging - the boxes are made of post-consumer recycled paper, with soy-based printing ink, natural latex and starch-based glue.
