Working in an office environment often made me sick to see how many reams of paper were wastefully printed out and thrown away. But if you can’t operate without a ‘paperless office’, here is a fabulous alternative:
‘seed paper’. This A4 paper ($AU3.90) is embedded with seeds. It can be used in most inkjet or laser printers, and once you’ve finished with it, just soak it in water, plant it and watch a tree grow! This particular paper is ingrained with seeds from the Lemon-Scented Bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus), a native of Victoria, which grows to around 3.5m in a moist, sunny position.1) Soak paper in water until soft
2) Place paper in a pot or the ground in potting mix (somewhere warm)
3) Cover lightly with potting mix
4) Water and keep moist
Germination should take 7 to 21 days. Visit www.atomikgreen.com.au – which, by the way, stocks every kind of ‘green’ gizmo and gadget you could ever possibly think of.
